Edinboro Open Recap: 3 Placers for Spartan

After a break from competition, the Spartan Combat RTC entered several athletes into the Edinboro Open in Pennsylvania, with Ethan Qureshi (133), Meyer Shapiro (149), and George Arujau (141) making the podium.

Qureshi went 3-1, beating a pair of wrestlers from Edinboro on the way to the finals, where he lost to Lock Haven's Gable Strickland.

Shapiro won both of his matches, over Gavin Brown of Ohio State and Kolby Depron of Bucknell, before medically forfeiting to fourth. He remains undefeated this season.

Arujau took sixth after picking up three victories during the event. One of the highlights was a first period pin over Billy Meiszner of Kent State.

Spartan had a number of competitors at 165 pounds. Ben Shvartsman opened with a technical fall, as did Tim Bova. Roberto Padilla got the win over teammate Liam Finn by medical forfeit and edged Shvartsman, 6-5.

Foster Cardinale recorded a pin over Declan Neville of Buffalo at 125, while Kaleb Williams got his hand raised after blanking Alex Jacobs of Central Michigan, 4-0. Vince Napolitana grabbed two victories at the tournament at 149.
