Kyle Dake swept his three matches at the Pan American Championships in Acapulco, Mexico to capture the gold medal in Freestyle at 74 kg. The three-time World Champion made quick work of his first two foes, Diego Antonio Sandoval Zarco of Mexico and Franklin Maren Castillo of Cuba by matching 10-0 scores. That put Dake into the finals against World silver medalist Franklin Gomez of Puerto Rico, where he took a 5-0 advantage after the opening period before completing a dominant 10-1 victory.
Nick Gwiazdowski began with a 10-0 technical fall against Charles Zachary Merrill of Puerto Rico at 125 kg in the quarterfinals. He next defeated Jose Daniel Diaz Robertti of Venezuela by an 11-1 score in the semis to earn a spot in the title match. In the finals, Gwiazdowski led 3-3 on criteria late before Amarveer Dhesi of Canada picked up two exposure points on a challenge for a 5-3 decision.
